Anders Sannerstedt

Anders Sannerstedt is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at Lund University. He earned his PhD in 1979 and has spent his career studying Swedish politics.

His research covers public opinion and electoral behavior, political negotiations (especially in the Swedish parliament), the law-making process, populism, and local politics. His 1992 book, Förhandlingar i riksdagen (Negotiations in the Swedish Parliament), is based on some 40 interviews with Swedish MPs. He is particularly known for his work on the Sweden Democrats. The department’s media expert list names the Sweden Democrats, municipal politics, local elections and referendums as his areas of expertise. He has also written on the party’s voter base, including a chapter on its growing number of sympathisers in the 2015 SOM Institute survey volume Ekvilibrium, published in 2016.

Sannerstedt was co-editor of Statsvetenskaplig tidskrift, the Swedish journal of political science, from 1984 to 2006. He is a frequent expert commentator on Swedish politics in the press, on radio, and on television. He also takes part in public events, such as a panel on the Sweden Democrats in Gothenburg ahead of the 2026 general election.
