Simon is a professor at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Simon works for the Swiss Institute of Economics and Applied Economic Research and he is also the founder of the Global Trade Alert, an initiative that provides real-time information on state measures taken during global economic crises. 

Recently, he published an article with Johannes Fritz titled: The Scramble for Critical Raw Materials: Time to Take Stock? This research explores trade tensions and geopolitics surrounding critical raw materials.
